Unearthing The Undead 07 - STANLEY O'DEA

Stanley O'Dea, is the father of Judith O'Dea who played Barbra.  In the movie, he

plays a posse member and even recruited a few of his friends to join him.  For years

Judith thought he could not be seen in the film but he is there, but very obscured.  

He can be seen in the field of posse members when the helicopter lands.  He can also be

seen a bit more clearly, but in the background when Bill Cardille hands his coffee

over to Sheriff McClelland.  The best shots of him are from the WIIC TV-11

news footage that was shot by Steve which is available on the extras disc of the

Criterion release.

Stanley J. O'Dea, 75, San Diego, Calif., formerly of Youngstown, died of a heart attack

at 9:30 a.m. Aug. 11, in Rancho Beernardo Convalescent Hospital, San Diego, after a

three-week illness.

Mr. O'Dea was born July 17, 1908, in New York City, coming to Youngstown as a student at

Youngstown College.  He moved from Pittsburgh to San Diego 14 years ago.  He was a buyer

and manager at G.M. McKelvey Co. for five years before he began his 30 years in the steel

business with the Youngstown Sheet & Tube Co.  He was employed for 27 years by U.S. Steel
Corp.,
retiring in 1969 as a manager of personnel for the America Bridge Division.

In Youngstown, Mr. O'Dea was a member of Boardman Methodist Church and a volunteer in many

service organizations, including the Junior Chamber of Commerce, YMCA, Boy Scouts and Red
Cross,
of which he served as an assistant general campaign chairman.  For 11 years he was

master of ceremonies of Esther Hamilton's Alisa Santa Claus show.

Besides his wife, the former Anna Frances Little, whom he married Jan. 20, 1938, he leaves

two daughters, Mrs. Catharine A. Knapp of Tampa Fla., and Miss Judith of Los Alamitos, Calif.,

and four grandchildren.

There were no services.  

The family requests that material tributes take the form of
contributions to the Zoological
Society of San Diego or KPBS public television station
in San Diego.
